5th European Actuarial Journal Conference in LISBON
Dear visitor, dear colleague,
It is our pleasure to host the 5th edition of the European Actuarial Journal Conference in LISBON, Portugal, from September 9 to 11, 2018. The conference covers the wide field of actuarial science, pension funds, (re)insurance, mathematical finance, insurance analytics, risk management, asset liability management and solvency. The aim of the conference is to present cutting edge research on these topics. To (further) bridge the gap between industry and academia, Monday afternoon's CEO event gives the floor to two captains of industry who will shed light on current topics in the insurance industry (and beyond).
After successful editions in Lausanne, Vienna, Lyon and Leuven the venue of this year’s edition will be the ISEG - Lisbon School of Economics & Management, University of Lisbon. ISEG's mission is to create, share and enhance the social and economic value of knowledge and culture in the fields of Economics, Finance and Business Sciences, in a context of plurality and assurance of intellectual and scientific freedom, and respect for ethics and social responsibility.
EAJ, European Actuarial Journal Congress Lisboa, Announcement
EAJ Lisboa 2020 -->EAJ Lisboa 2021
Due to the uncertainty of the situation caused by COVID 19 virus, the Organising Committee decided to call off the 2020 meeting and make it “EAJ Lisboa 2021”. It will be at the same site, ISEG, in the same second week of September, we hope to confirm soon the dates 8-9 September. All information will be at the conference webpage.
The University completely called off the semester on location, teaching exams are to be run online only. At least until summer holidays it will be difficult to have normal activities on campus. Almost all people are doing their jobs from home, lecturers are teaching and working online which have brought new challenges occupying extra time. Also, we don’t know when academics and researchers will be able allowed travel normally.
Besides, no one knows how our “after crisis” period will be like, when can we re-start travelling, meeting normally, having crowds in conferences, etc.
We are sad, but we decided it would be wiser to postpone the conference to 2021, and probably transfer all important dates and deadlines to 2021, accordingly. All information will be put available soon at our webpage.
Important dates and deadlines are: Abstract submission: 10/05/2021; Abstract Acceptance: 01/06/2021; Publication of Abstracts in website: 03/06/2021; Early Bird Registration Fee 30/06/2021.

The metro fare is charged to the “Viva Viagem” card, which must be purchased on the first purchase of the ticket and has a price of € 0.50. The “Viva Viagem” card is reusable and can be used for multiple tickets: individual, round trip, one day pass or 10 travel ticket.
Tickets are purchased at subway stations, or at the ticket offices or ticket machines. The ticket offices are always busy at the main stations, or closed at the less frequented stations. Ticket machines are user friendly and provide instructions in multiple languages including: English, Spanish and Portuguese.
There are two distinct fare zones in the Lisbon metro but all major tourist areas, including the airport, are part of zone 1. The Lisbon Metro ticket costs in 2019 are:
€ 1.50 - Single Ticket
€ 6.40 - Unlimited 24-hour travel ticket that includes all Lisboa buses and trams;
Lisboa metro tickets are loaded on the “Viva Viagem” card and the unused ticket remains on the card for several days. Therefore, a return ticket may be used the next day. The "Viva Viagem" card is also used for the train and ferry service in Lisbon, but ticket prices are different.
Lisboa is a very secure city but, as in all cities, you should avoid being alone at night in dark areas, like parks and gardens, or in crowded areas. Cascais and Sintra train lines and Tram 28, as they are very popular among tourists, they are also popular among pick pockets. Move your backpack to the front and be careful with your valuables.
